Get your moles checked and removed by leading dermatologists

If you don’t like the look of your mole, or there has been a change in the shape, size, colour and texture, we can check to see if biopsy is needed or we can remove it for you. Whether you choose mole removal services for aesthetic reasons or otherwise, sk:n will always put excellent patient care at the heart of what we do.
What is a mole?
A common mole, or melanocytic naevi, is a coloured spot on the skin that develops when pigment cells called melanocytes grow in clusters. Although common moles may be present at birth, they usually appear later in childhood and increase during teenage years – most adults usually have between 10 and 40 on their body. During pregnancy, moles often get darker and they can fade away completely from around the age of 50.
Cosmetic or benign mole removal
Should you want a benign mole, cyst or other lesion removed for cosmetic reasons, you can book treatment with one of the leading consultant dermatologists, surgeons and doctors at sk:n.
The consultant will check your mole to ensure biopsy is not necessary, discuss the recommended procedure and costs, recovery, likely outcomes, and any risks and complications.
If you decide to go ahead with the procedure, we will book you in as soon as possible. The consultation and procedure normally take around 30 minutes in total.
Cosmetic mole removal services are available nationwide at sk:n.
Methods of mole removal
Laser removal
Most suitable for small, raised moles in areas where minimal scarring is a priority, such as the face. Laser mole removal uses light energy to break down the melanin pigment within the mole.
Shave removal
Moles that protrude from the skin can be ‘shaved’ off under local anaesthetic. A surgical blade is used to remove the mole down to slightly beneath the surface of the skin leaving a pink indent that should fade with time.
Excision removal
Most suitable for larger moles where regrowth is a concern. Excision is performed under local anaesthetic and involves the surgical removal of the mole along with a small border of normal surrounding skin. This procedure requires a stitch to close the skin, leaving a small OnabotulinumtoxinAAbobotulinumtoxinAIncobotulinumtoxinAPrabotulinumtoxinALetibotulinumtoxinARimabotulinumtoxinBHyaluronic Acid FillersCalcium Hydroxylapatite FillersPoly-L-lactic Acid FillersPolymethylmethacrylate FillersAutologous Fat GraftingForehead Lines TreatmentGlabellar Frown Lines TreatmentCrow's Feet TreatmentBunny Lines TreatmentChemical Brow LiftLip FlipGummy Smile CorrectionMasseter ReductionJaw SlimmingDimpled Chin SmoothingCobblestone Chin SmoothingNefertiti Neck LiftMicro-BotoxMesotoxHyperhidrosis TreatmentChronic Migraine ReliefBruxism TreatmentTMJ TreatmentCervical Dystonia TreatmentNeck Spasm TreatmentBlepharospasm TreatmentLip AugmentationLip ContouringCheekbone EnhancementTear Trough FillersNasolabial Fold SofteningMarionette Line FillersLiquid RhinoplastyNon-Surgical Nose JobJawline ContouringJawline DefinitionChin AugmentationTemple VolumisingHand RejuvenationAcne Scar Subcision Filling that will fade over time.

How to best look after your moles
Sun exposure is the main cause of skin cancers, so protecting your skin from the sun is crucial for skin health. Experts advise to avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm on sunny days, and to wear protective clothing in addition to using sunscreen regularly.
Consultant dermatologist at sk:n, Dr Jinah Yoo, recommends using at least an SPF30 sunscreen with a UVB and UVA protection star rating of 4 or 5:
«Sunscreen should be applied 15 to 30 minutes before going outside and should be reapplied every two hours. Regular self-monitoring of your moles to look for any changes in colour, shape or size is also recommended. Warning signs for cancerous changes from existing or new moles/freckles can be easily remembered using the ABCDE rule outlined below:»
If you notice any of these changes, you should seek advice from a doctor. At sk:n we have experienced doctors that can help check your moles and give you peace of mind.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
You can have a mole removed from anywhere on your body, including on your face. Our doctors have years of experience in removing moles from the face and sensitive and hard-to-reach places.
Yes of course, it is possible. Unlike the NHS, who will only remove moles if they are potentially dangerous, at sk:n, we are used to removing moles for cosmetic reasons, unless your consultant feels there is a medical reason not to.
You will need to see a consultant for a consultation and clinical review to discuss the removal. Sometimes a doctor may advise against procedures because the risk of scarring outweighs the cosmetic benefit.
In the last few years, the NHS has reduced the type of «non-essential» treatments it delivers. This means that some procedures, such as mole removal, and warts, verrucae and skin tag removal, can no longer be (administered) offered for free on the NHS. A mole that is not believed to be at risk, dysplastic or malignant, (life-threatening or cancerous) will not generally be removed on the NHS.
Patients with insurance have their costs usually covered by their insurance policy in full, subject to policy conditions. We advise you to check with your provider prior to booking. For clients without health insurance, we offer a Pre-Procedure Consultation at £150.
At sk:n you are in the safest hands. Our leading consultant dermatologists, doctors, surgeons and nurses have extensive training, qualifications and experience. We are trusted by the NHS, and receive more NHS referrals for mole removal than any other dermatology provider. During your consultation and treatment, we will explain any possible side effects and how to avoid them.
There are several types of mole and each type has different treatment options. Melanocytic moles need to be excised and sent to the laboratory for histopathology. An excision of a mole involves injections with local anaesthetic: a sharp scratch and a burning sensation that lasts 1-20 seconds. Once the local anaesthetic starts working the patient will only feel pulling but no pain.
Intradermal nevi and compound nevi can be removed by excision, shave or laser. Excisions and shave removals require local anaesthetic, but laser treatment can be carried out with the application of topical anaesthetic creams.
Laser removal is described as feeling like the flick of an elastic band. If you are booked in for shave or excision removal, the area will be numbed with a local anaesthetic so you won’t feel anything.
When moles are excised they will not recur.
If moles are removed by shave or laser There is a very small chance that your mole might reappear after having it removed, as a few mole cells may remain in the skin. If this is the case, we will book you in for further treatment. Usually, however, you will find that one treatment session is enough.
The British Association of Dermatologists defines Atypical mole syndrome as «a disorder of the skin which is seen in approximately 2% of the population. It is defined when an individual has more than 50 moles composed of melanocytes (pigment producing skin cells) present on their skin, and three or more are atypical (unusual) in their appearance, e.g. size and shape.»

a-laser-focus-on-skin-pigmentation-and-treatment

A Laser Focus on Skin Pigmentation and Treatment
Acne scarring, freckles, sun spots, age spots, under-eye dark circles and melasma are all common yet undesired forms of skin pigmentation. These scars, indentations and dark-coloured blemishes are often undesirable as they create an uneven and unhealthy-looking appearance. Due to the various reasons that skin pigmentation and hyperpigmentation can occur, the best pigmentation treatment is dependent on your specific concern. It can be difficult reversing pigmentation, but here at Harley Street Injectables, Alice has achieved outstanding results with her patients by creating custom programs. These plans combine in-clinic treatments and home care, tailored to each patient’s specific pigmentation problem. Let’s take a look at the three main types of skin pigmentation, how pigmentation occurs and how to fix skin pigmentation.
Acne Scarring
It’s undoubtedly disheartening having to experience acne little own its repercussions. More commonly known to occur in our teenage years, acne can be active throughout our adult life, too. This is because our hormone levels are constantly fluctuating depending on our age and what we are experiencing physically and mentally. The change in hormones triggers a higher oil production, in which the oil builds up in the hair follicles and consequently appears as various types of pimples on the skin. Picking at your acne can inflame the skin and leave a lasting scar or indentation. If this broken skin is exposed to the sun, it can magnify the damage. The skin then begins its self-healing process by producing abnormal collagen. The result is an uneven skin tone, permanent scars and dents. Light scarring can sometimes fade on its own, but you can treat acne scarring. We know that many of our patients have insecurities due to acne scarring well after the initial active acne treatment, and we know that we can eliminate those insecurities to unleash new confidence and beauty.
Alice’s patients’ before and after: acne scarring treatment
Melasma
Melasma is a common skin condition that occurs more often in women as it can be triggered by a change in hormones as well as genetic predisposition. The skin condition can be also be activated or made worse by stress, pregnancy, medication and excessive sun exposure. Melasma appears as different shaded dark patches on the face, often undefined and blotchy. Melasma can fade if hormones are regulated (i.e., post-pregnancy), but it can sometimes last for years or a lifetime. This is when treatments are considered in order to reverse melasma, revealing a new and improved beautiful, bright complexion.
Alice’s patient’s before and after: melasma treatment
Sun Damage (Solar Lentigines) and Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
We can often forget or overlook just how strong the sun and its UV rays can be, particularly when we’re enjoying it poolside on a tropical getaway. As we know, too much sun is harmful to our bodies; not only in terms of skin cancers but when our skin is damaged, it can also result in hyperpigmentation, including freckles, dark sunspots, age spots and patches. This is because sun exposure causes our body to increase melanin (tanning cell) production. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the pigmentation that follows sun damage, acne or burns. It becomes inflamed on a deeper level, creating visibly dark patches on the surface of the skin. Depending on the severity of the sun and PIH damage, there are ways to treat and clear the skin.
Alice’s patient’s before and after: sun damage and PIH treatment
How to Treat Skin Pigmentation
Skin pigmentation on the face and body can be healed if treated correctly. Improper treatment can result in PIH. At Harley Street Injectables, the first step Alice takes her patients through is determining whether the patients require oral medication, in-clinic treatment or a combination of both. This can only be evaluated during skin analysis and face-to-face consultation
The treatments included in acne treatment plans range from oral antibiotics, chemical peels, fractional laser treatment and extractions.
The treatment options available for pigmentation include laser, dermapen, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), medical skin peels and take-home prescription skincare. Alice prescribes highly-acclaimed Z.O Zein Obagi nu derm medical skincare that contains hydroquinone. Alternatively, she will use Mesoestetic skincare which contains Arbutin instead of hydroquinone, following a Cosmelan and Dermamelan chemical peel.
Alice has created the ultimate pigmentation and resurfacing package, which combines three luxury treatments to diminish the most stubborn pigmentation and acne scarring. The course consists of fractional laser, pure hydration facials and prescription skincare to help you continue the treatment journey from home. Alice’s patients have achieved results that leave them feeling beautiful, with new confidence radiating from their fresh skin!
How to Prevent Skin Pigmentation
Treatment plans include guidance on how to look after your skin long after you have had your in-clinic treatments. To control your pigmentation once the treatments have been completed, Alice recommends a maintenance skincare programme which usually includes prescription vitamin C, retinol and/or tretinoin. It is also recommended that you wear an SPF 50 with UVB and UVA. This is a crucial step in your home routine as exposing your treated skin to the sun can result in pigment reoccurring.
