Get your moles checked and removed by leading dermatologists

If you don’t like the look of your mole, or there has been a change in the shape, size, colour and texture, we can check to see if biopsy is needed or we can remove it for you. Whether you choose mole removal services for aesthetic reasons or otherwise, sk:n will always put excellent patient care at the heart of what we do.
What is a mole?
A common mole, or melanocytic naevi, is a coloured spot on the skin that develops when pigment cells called melanocytes grow in clusters. Although common moles may be present at birth, they usually appear later in childhood and increase during teenage years – most adults usually have between 10 and 40 on their body. During pregnancy, moles often get darker and they can fade away completely from around the age of 50.
Cosmetic or benign mole removal
Should you want a benign mole, cyst or other lesion removed for cosmetic reasons, you can book treatment with one of the leading consultant dermatologists, surgeons and doctors at sk:n.
The consultant will check your mole to ensure biopsy is not necessary, discuss the recommended procedure and costs, recovery, likely outcomes, and any risks and complications.
If you decide to go ahead with the procedure, we will book you in as soon as possible. The consultation and procedure normally take around 30 minutes in total.
Cosmetic mole removal services are available nationwide at sk:n.
Methods of mole removal
Laser removal
Most suitable for small, raised moles in areas where minimal scarring is a priority, such as the face. Laser mole removal uses light energy to break down the melanin pigment within the mole.
Shave removal
Moles that protrude from the skin can be ‘shaved’ off under local anaesthetic. A surgical blade is used to remove the mole down to slightly beneath the surface of the skin leaving a pink indent that should fade with time.
Excision removal
Most suitable for larger moles where regrowth is a concern. Excision is performed under local anaesthetic and involves the surgical removal of the mole along with a small border of normal surrounding skin. This procedure requires a stitch to close the skin, leaving a small scar that will fade over time.

How to best look after your moles
Sun exposure is the main cause of skin cancers, so protecting your skin from the sun is crucial for skin health. Experts advise to avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm on sunny days, and to wear protective clothing in addition to using sunscreen regularly.
Consultant dermatologist at sk:n, Dr Jinah Yoo, recommends using at least an SPF30 sunscreen with a UVB and UVA protection star rating of 4 or 5:
«Sunscreen should be applied 15 to 30 minutes before going outside and should be reapplied every two hours. Regular self-monitoring of your moles to look Anti-Wrinkle for Men (<a href=»www.drunkelephant.com/">www.drunkelephant.com) any changes in colour, shape or size is also recommended. Warning signs for cancerous changes from existing or new moles/freckles can be easily remembered using the ABCDE rule outlined below:"
If you notice any of these changes, you should seek advice from a doctor. At sk:n we have experienced doctors that can help check your moles and give you peace of mind.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
You can have a mole removed from anywhere on your body, including on your face. Our doctors have years of experience in removing moles from the face and sensitive and hard-to-reach places.
Yes of course, it is possible. Unlike the NHS, who will only remove moles if they are potentially dangerous, at sk:n, we are used to removing moles for cosmetic reasons, unless your consultant feels there is a medical reason not to.
You will need to see a consultant for a consultation and clinical review to discuss the removal. Sometimes a doctor may advise against procedures because the risk of scarring outweighs the cosmetic benefit.
In the last few years, the NHS has reduced the type of «non-essential» treatments it delivers. This means that some procedures, such as mole removal, and warts, verrucae and skin tag removal, can no longer be (administered) offered for free on the NHS. A mole that is not believed to be at risk, dysplastic or malignant, (life-threatening or cancerous) will not generally be removed on the NHS.
Patients with insurance have their costs usually covered by their insurance policy in full, subject to policy conditions. We advise you to check with your provider prior to booking. For clients without health insurance, we offer a Pre-Procedure Consultation at £150.
At sk:n you are in the safest hands. Our leading consultant dermatologists, doctors, surgeons and nurses have extensive training, qualifications and experience. We are trusted by the NHS, and receive more NHS referrals for mole removal than any other dermatology provider. During your consultation and treatment, we will explain any possible side effects and how to avoid them.
There are several types of mole and each type has different treatment options. Melanocytic moles need to be excised and sent to the laboratory for histopathology. An excision of a mole involves injections with local anaesthetic: a sharp scratch and a burning sensation that lasts 1-20 seconds. Once the local anaesthetic starts working the patient will only feel pulling but no pain.
Intradermal nevi and compound nevi can be removed by excision, shave or laser. Excisions and shave removals require local anaesthetic, but laser treatment can be carried out with the application of topical anaesthetic creams.
Laser removal is described as feeling like the flick of an elastic band. If you are booked in for shave or excision removal, the area will be numbed with a local anaesthetic so you won’t feel anything.
When moles are excised they will not recur.
If moles are removed by shave or laser There is a very small chance that your mole might reappear after having it removed, as a few mole cells may remain in the skin. If this is the case, we will book you in for further treatment. Usually, however, you will find that one treatment session is enough.
The British Association of Dermatologists defines Atypical mole syndrome as «a disorder of the skin which is seen in approximately 2% of the population. It is defined when an individual has more than 50 moles composed of melanocytes (pigment producing skin cells) present on their skin, and three or more are atypical (unusual) in their appearance, e.g. size and shape.»

The Transformative Power of Sculptra: Beyond the Face
In the ever-evolving world of aesthetic treatments, Sculptra stands out as a unique and versatile option for those looking to rejuvenate and enhance their appearance. Traditionally associated with facial volume restoration, the application of Sculptra has expanded to include the neck, body, and hands, offering a comprehensive solution to the natural aging process.
Understanding Sculptra: The Basics
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) based injectable treatment, distinct from traditional fillers due to its mechanism of action. Instead of providing immediate volume, Cutera Secret™ PRO RF Microneedling, https://deluxepeptides.com/, Sculptra stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, leading to gradual and lasting improvements in skin texture and volume. This biocompatible and biodegradable substance has been safely used in various medical applications for decades, including dissolvable stitches
Facial Rejuvenation: The Foundation
Sculptra’s primary use has been in facial rejuvenation, targeting areas prone to volume loss with age, such as the cheeks, temples, and jawline. Its ability to promote collagen synthesis results in a more natural and subtle enhancement compared to traditional fillers. Patients can expect a gradual improvement in facial contours, with results lasting up to two years or more.
Extending to the Neck: Addressing Neglected Areas
The neck is often one of the first areas to show signs of aging, yet it is frequently overlooked in aesthetic treatments. Sculptra offers a solution to this problem by improving the appearance of crepey skin, fine lines, and wrinkles on the neck. The treatment encourages collagen production, resulting in a firmer and smoother neck over time, harmoniously complementing facial rejuvenation efforts
Body Contouring: A New Frontier
Sculptra’s application has expanded beyond the face and neck to include body contouring. It is particularly effective in areas where volume loss or laxity is a concern, such as the buttocks, thighs, and upper arms. Sculptra can enhance curves, smooth irregularities, and improve overall skin texture, providing a more youthful and toned appearance without the need for invasive surgery
The hands, much like the face, can significantly betray one’s age, with thinning skin, prominent veins, and age spots. Sculptra injections into the hands can restore lost volume, diminish the visibility of veins and tendons, and encourage a more youthful skin texture. This treatment, combined with other rejuvenation techniques, can significantly reduce the signs of aging hands.
Its ability to stimulate the body’s own collagen production ensures results that are both natural-looking and long-lasting. As with any cosmetic treatment, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified and experienced practitioner to ensure the best possible outcomes tailored to your individual needs and goals.
In the realm of aesthetic treatments, Sculptra represents a holistic approach, addressing not just the face but the entire body’s aging concerns. Its expanding applications underscore the importance of a comprehensive strategy in achieving and maintaining a youthful, revitalized appearance

Botox FAQs

<h2 />
What Is Botox?
Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A, a muscle relaxer that's been used for decades to treat a variety of medical conditions and for cosmetic reasons. Botox injections are made from onobotulinum toxin type A.
Botox is most commonly used as an injectable cosmetic treatment to smooth the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, most commonly to reduce forehead wrinkles and forehead lines, crow's feet and frown lines. It can also be used to treat medical conditions and certain disorders such as chronic migraines and headaches, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), overactive bladder and a lazy eye. For a more detailed view of what Botox is and how it works please click here to read our Botox FAQ.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox is a purified protein that’s injected into muscles to relax them by blocking certain chemical signals from nerves that cause muscle contractions. It’s made from Clostridium botulinum toxin and has been used for medical and cosmetic purposes since the 1980s. Botox injections are often used to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause facial wrinkles, but it can also be helpful in treating other areas of the body, such as underarms, neck and hands.
Botox was originally discovered by scientists who were studying bacteria called Clostridium botulinum in the 1970s. This type of bacteria occurs naturally in soil and water, which means that if you eat food that contains it without properly cooking it first (like improperly prepared fish or eggs), you could become ill or even die! But when used properly by a medical practitioner such as a licensed doctor, dentist or nurse practitioner, this toxin can help eliminate wrinkles on your face while keeping them safe from harm too!
To find out more about how Botox works please read our full 'How Does Botox Work?' guide.
What Is Botulinum Toxin?
Botox is a brand name for onobotulinumtoxin type A (botulinum toxin), a neurotoxic protein that is injected into specific muscles with a thin needle to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin injections prevent the release of certain chemical signals and messengers coming from nerves which provide a temporary reduction in muscle contraction and movement.
Other brands of botulinum toxin available in the UK include Bocouture, Azzalure, Letybo and Nuceiva. New brands are emerging, but these are currently the most well-established and widely used. They are all approved for cosmetic use in adults.
What Areas Can Be Treated With Botox?
Botox can be used to treat a variety of conditions. Some of the most common uses for Botox include:
Botox For Your Frown or Glabella Lines
Botox For Crow’s Feet
Botox For Bunny Lines
Botox For Forehead Lines
Botox For Dimpled Chin
Botox For Smile Lines
Botox For Neck Bands
Botox For Gummy Smile
It can also be used to treat:
Botox for Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
Botox For Migraines
Botox For Overactive Bladder
For more detailed information on the areas that can treat Botox please view our guide.
What Does A Botox Treatment Feel Like?
You will feel nothing at all when Botox is being injected into your skin. It is a very quick process, and patients typically feel no pain during their treatment. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes to complete and involves an injection of a small amount of Botox into the area that needs it. The medication works to temporarily relax muscles that cause wrinkles, which gives you smoother skin for up to four months before any further treatments are needed.
What Are The Risks Of Having Botox Injections?
Allergic reactions: A small percentage of people develop an allergic reaction to Botox. However, an allergic reaction to Botox is very rare. Symptoms can include redness, burning, itching and swelling at the injection site. If you experience a severe reaction after getting Botox and have trouble breathing, double vision, or trouble swallowing, contact your medical practitioner immediately and seek medical attention.
Droopy eyelids: It's not uncommon for patients to develop droopy eyelids, also called ptosis, after getting Botox injections in their forehead area (glabellar). Apart from waiting, your medical practitioner can give you eyedrops to help with droopy eyelids or administer more Botox to counteract relaxed muscles. Droopy eyelids may negatively affect your confidence but will typically only last for four to six weeks.
Dry mouth: Masseter treatment with Botox could potentially cause temporary dry mouth. It's unlikely to cause such a side effect if you had a treatment in the upper face. Side effects like this more commonly occur among men than women and usually last only a few days following treatment, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). If dry mouth continues beyond that point or becomes unbearable while it lasts then you may need additional medication like lip balm or throat lozenges until it goes away completely — but don't worry — this isn't permanent!
How Soon Will I See The Results?
The process of Botox injection takes only a few minutes and you can return to your normal activities immediately.
The results of Botox For Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) will begin to be visible within days of the treatment, with the full effects being evident within two weeks.
How Long Do Results Last?
No one knows how long Botox lasts. It varies from person to person and from area to area. Generally speaking, it lasts between three and six months. The most important thing is not how long it lasts but whether or not you are happy with the results.
Who Can Have Botox Injections In Treherbert?
Botox is safe for most people, but there are some groups of people who should not have Botox.
People with certain neuromuscular disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis
People who are taking certain muscle relaxants and certain antibiotics
People with inflammation or infection at the potential treatment site
Pregnant women: The solution to this problem is simple — women who are pregnant should not take Botox.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding. There is not enough data to suggest if it's safe to use botox while pregnant or breastfeeding, It is best to be on the safe side and avoid treatment while you are pregnant or breastfeeding
People with certain conditions: People with bleeding disorders, such as haemophilia or von Willebrand disease, should not have any kind of injectable medication because it can cause them to bleed excessively or even die from an internal haemorrhage or an injury caused by uncontrolled bleeding after injection. In addition, anyone who has had previous reactions to botulinum toxin (also known as Botox) injections or any other injectable medications should not receive another injection when it is done under local anaesthesia because those symptoms will return if you have another one and could be worse than before the first time around!
When Should I Start Getting Botox Injections?
It's best to start your treatment when you want to prevent the earliest visible fine lines and wrinkles from becoming deep and visible. While botox treatment has been approved for people age 18+, it’s best to start your treatment in your late twenties or early thirties, or when you begin to notice the early signs of ageing.
The best time to start is before you have wrinkles since it's easier to treat wrinkles when they're still developing.
How Long Does The Treatment Take?
Getting botox treatment takes only a few minutes but can vary depending on the treatment area. It's injected with a fine needle into the muscles after they are assessed on animation by your medical practitioner to help find the right injection points.
The treatment takes about minutes.
Can I Go Back To Work In Treherbert After Having Botox Injections?
Yes, you can go back to work after having Botox treatments. In fact, most people do just that! You rarely may have some mild bruising and swelling associated with the treatment. This is usually gone within a few days but if it doesn't go away or becomes worse, make sure to call your doctor.
It's important not to wear make-up for at least 24 hours. You can also use cold packs and arnica cream (available online) to reduce bruising, swelling and redness of the skin around your eyes.
What Should You Not Do After Treatment?
Staying out of the sun is important. You should also avoid the following:
Applying skin care products or makeup for the next 24 hours
Rubbing or massaging the treatment area
Doing strenuous exercise that potentially can make you hot and sweaty
Going into saunas, spas, hot and steamy environment
Using retin-A, alpha hydroxy or glycolic acids on your skin

Will I Look Unnatural After Getting Injections Of Botox?
Botox will not make you look unnatural. It is possible to overdo Botox, but this would just result in an overly frozen appearance and not any sort of unnaturalness. The idea that Botox makes you look frozen is a myth, as the effect is actually very subtle and natural looking.
In terms of looking like a different person, the only way someone could tell is if they had seen you before getting Botox and then saw you again after it was injected—and even then it's hard to say if what they saw was really an undeniable difference or just something they «think» they see because they were told by someone else (or read on the internet) that there should be one! This can lead people into believing that their loved ones will suddenly transform completely once they start getting injections regularly—but there's no reason why this would happen unless those loved ones had already been anticipating such a drastic change beforehand… which seems unlikely given how subtle the effects are overall!
The same applies to age: If friends start noticing that everyone around them seems younger than usual (and therefore assume it must be due to something going on inside), maybe we need more Botox ourselves? No one can see themselves getting older in real-time anyway… so why worry about what other people might think?
Are There Side Effects To Getting Botox? Is Botox Safe?
Yes. However, the possible side effects are rare and usually only last a few days.
The most common side effect is bruising at the injection site. This can take anywhere from a few hours up to a week to go away with no permanent damage.
Other less common but more serious complications include:
Nerve injury affecting swallowing or breathing
Dry mouth (which usually goes away after about 3 weeks)
How Often Can I Have Botox Injections?
The answer to this question comes down to two factors: how long Botox takes to wear off and how quickly your muscles replenish themselves.
Botox will typically last between three months and four months. As soon as you stop getting injections, your muscles will start growing back to their normal strength; this process takes a few months.
